Really think it is the best art book I have purchased in years. I had this book on the table when a relative saw it and started paging through it. Now he wants a copy for himself because there are so many informative instructions about how to accomplish a certain brush stroke or an outdoor scene such as water.
There are guides on how to paint almost every element found in the landscape, from skys and clouds to under water. Also there is a section on how to use different tools and accessories besides brushes to create essential effects and textures.This is a good "how to start" book but probably more friendly and useful for the more experienced painter. I think this is a worthwhile addition, if not essential, volume for the watercolor painter who wants to become a better landscape painter. I geneally do not get a lot from how-to type art books but this book has some great information usually not found in other books. There is a chart on different brands of paints and various pigments, rating which colors were best from each maker.
Would recommend this book, especially to those just beginning to paint. Nice illustrations, easy to follow instructions. I mainly use acrylics and am able to use the same techniques as in this book with a few variations to get the same effect.
The book is both well-written and contained everything I wanted to know about painting landscapes. I absolutely love this book. The images perfectly compliment the techniques described to the reader, making the book easier to digest for this beginning watercolor student.
This book is probably one of the 10 best out of the 70 ( yea i found around that many, but kept only around 40 books, the ones i didn't like i donated to the library) Easy instructions and really goes over all aspects. I have a huge collection of watercolor books, both early how too and more advanced. You can never get enough good instruction i just wish it went on a few more hundred pages. I think i am getting pretty good. This is my main source of learning.
